Chin Augmentation

The chin plays a crucial role in creating facial harmony and establishing a balance between your features. When the chin is underdeveloped or has receded due to age, it can make your other facial features appear larger and more prominent than you wish. Your surgeon can add volume to the chin by using an implant, creating a more balanced facial appearance.
What many people do not realize is that the nose and the chin are connected in creating facial balance. The length of the chin and the size of the nose must be in harmony with one another. A smaller or less defined chin can make a larger nose more noticeable. In some cases, chin augmentation is also combined with reduction rhinoplasty to ensure the features match. Dr. Espinoza can help patients correct the size of their chin and achieve the ultimate facial symmetry.

What Is Chin Augmentation?

Chin augmentation is a surgical procedure that can create a more proportional chin using an implant. In some cases, the surgery may also be performed using the fat transfer method. This allows fat taken from one area of the body to be placed in another, adding volume in the correct locations.

By adding more prominence to the chin, you can balance your facial features. This also creates a more contoured profile and jawline. This surgery is performed on those who were born with a smaller or underdeveloped chin or for those who have lost volume in the area as a result of their age.

Your Procedure

The procedure is performed using IV sedation and takes only a short amount of time to complete. During the procedure, an incision is made either below the chin or inside of the mouth. Both options are naturally well concealed, ensuring any scars will be nearly invisible. The implant will be inserted through the incisions, and then the incisions will be closed. With this procedure, only stitches are required, and you will not need to wear any dressings.

Recovery After Chin Augmentation

Once the surgery is complete, you should expect to recover for at least a week. During this time, you may experience moderate discomfort and some swelling. There may also be some bruising, but this is lighter than most surgical procedures. After the first week of recovery, most patients can return to work or social activities. Still, patients should continue to avoid more strenuous activities such as exercise for two to four weeks.
